Widely regarded as the language of international business,
English is essential to today's commercial environment,
both for companies seeking to trade overseas and for
employees wishing to develop careers in global industries.
English for Business (EFB) is one of LCCI's flagship
qualifications and, is respected internationally by
employers and universities. Many employers specify EFB
as a standard for recruitment and universities recognise
EFB Level 3 as fulfilling their English language requirements.
Preliminary Level 60-70 hours
The examination verifies that candidates have mastered
basic practical reading and writing skills in English,
and have reached a survival level in business English.
Level One: 70-80 hours
Designed for candidates who, as a part of their job,
deal with English-speaking counterparts regularly in
a functional capacity. A basic functional level of English
language skills is required. The Optional Oral test
is available to candidates undertaking English for Business
at any level. The Test is based around the discussion
of a business-related topic. Candidates are given 5
minutes to prepare for this discussion and are marked
on 5 areas
Level Two: 80-90 hours
A more advanced syllabus than Level 1, this examination
is for candidates whose work involves them in extensive
contact with English speakers. Expected skills include
writing and understanding familiar business correspondence,
giving complex instructions and explanations. This qualification
is intended for candidates who are able to communicate
in a familiar business situation effectively and with
only minimal assistance or supervision. The Optional
Oral test is available to candidates undertaking English
for Business at any level. The Test is based around
the discussion of a business-related topic. Candidates
are given 5 minutes to prepare for this discussion and
are marked on 5 areas:
Level Three:
Duration: 140-160 hours
This examination is aimed at candidates for whom establishing
and sustaining English speaking business relationships
is essential, and at those considering relocation to
an English-speaking country. The skills attained at
this level should be sufficient for the candidate to
participate in all complex areas of business. Level
3 is generally the standard required for entry to English-speaking
universities. The Optional Oral test is available to
candidates undertaking English for Business at any level.
The Test is based around the discussion of a business-related
topic. Candidates are given 5 minutes to prepare for
this discussion and are marked on 5 areas:
Level Four: 140-160 hours
The highest level of EFB expects candidates to be fully
fluent and participate completely in all areas of business.
This includes reading, understanding and producing complex
business texts in a variety of genres. The Optional
Oral test is available to candidates undertaking English
for Business at any level. The Test is based around
the discussion of a business-related topic. Candidates
are given 5 minutes to prepare for this discussion and
are marked on 5 areas:
IELTS Preparation Course:
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS)
is an internationally owned and globally recognised
direct English language assessment of the highest quality
and integrity readily available throughout the world.
IELTS covers all four language skills: Listening, Reading,
Writing and Speaking and is offered in two test formats
- Academic and General Training. All candidates take
the same Listening and Speaking Modules and there is
an option of either Academic or General Training Reading
and Writing Modules.
Academic is suitable for candidates planning to undertake
higher education study or who are seeking professional
registration. General Training is suitable for candidates
planning to undertake non-academic training or work
experience, or for immigration purposes.
IELTS is recognised by universities and employers in
many countries, including Australia, Canada, Ireland,
New Zealand, the UK and the USA. It is also recognised
by professional bodies, immigration authorities and
other government agencies.
